Certified School Counselor

Terri Martin-Yates is a certified school counselor and early intervention specialist. During her career, she has served families and children in many capacities but her passion is helping parents and teachers of young children, particularly those with with special needs. She has worked for Babies Can't Wait as a service coordinator and team member for eligibility assessments and she also served as the counselor and family services coordinator for Challenged Child and Friends, a SACS-accredited special purpose preschool in Gainesville, Georgia.

She continues to work part-time for a clinical psychologist in Gainesville, Georgia as a psychometrist. She performs developmental evaluations of preschoolers and psychoeducational evaluations of school-age children, as well as psychological evaluations of adults.

As a state-approved Level II Trainer for Bright from the Start, Terri hopes to share her years of experience in education, psychology, and early intervention with early childhood educators throughout Georgia and the world. Terri’s mission is to help teachers understand early brain development and how to help all children in Georgia develop a strong foundation for learning in the early years!

Terri has a Master’s degree in Education from the University of Georgia and completed a certification program in school counseling from Georgia State University. She also holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology and sociology from Stetson University in Florida.

She has presented at numerous conferences including: GAYC, the Georgia School Counselor Conference, Students Assistance Professionals Association Conference, and the National Youth-at-Risk Conference.

Terri Martin-Yates is a Certified Presenter for The Upside Down Organization (UDO) and is trained and licensed to provide UDO workshops to child-serving organizations around the world. UDO’s Certified Trainers meet stringent certification requirements. UDO Certified Presenters are passionate about sharing brain-based research with education and human services professionals.
